Oxford English Dictionary - Expand you vocabulary, impress your friends.

The name Oxford English Dictionary may sound like some stodgy, academic volume of stale words and phrases but in fact it is the accepted authority on the English language for the last millennium and the Montgomery College community has access to its breadth of knowledge at school, work, or home, right from the MC Library’s database page.

Today’s word of the Day? Ally-oop. First used in 1959 “[in] Basketball. Designating or involving a high pass near the basket that is received above the rim and dunked or tipped in to score; designating a basket scored from such a pass.” (You can sign up for Word of Day RSS feeds or emails even: http://dictionary.oed.com/cgi/display/wotd)

Recently added entries:

Big Whoop, - A. int. Expressing dismissiveness: ‘So what?’ ‘Who cares?’

Doh - Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned, or that one has just said or done something foolish. Also (usu. mildly derogatory): implying that another person has said or done something foolish (cf. DUH int.).
