The Rockville Campus Library has increased the number of power outlets on the 2nd and 3rd floor with more than 125 outlets! Many of the new outlets include USB power, so that students can plug in thirsty devices and laptops.
This project is the result of the recommendations that students made in the 2013 Rockville Library Ethnography study and the 2014 LibQUAL+ survey. We asked how we could improve the library, and one of the most common suggestions was to increase access to power outlets. So we made it a top priority!
Rockville Campus Library now has 317 receptacles (many with USB power plugs). This is a 65% increase in outlet availability to users. We are confident that we have effectively responded to the student-expressed needs for convenience power.
If you ever have suggestions for improvements for the libraries, please let us know. MC Libraries listen and we are always looking for ways to better support you!

Now that we are half way through the semester, your mind might be turning to research. So far, your work has probably already begun to produce excellent assignments for your classes. But, don't forget to include the Libraries' resources in your planning!
Over the winter break, the Libraries dramatically increased access to online journals, both in adding new subscriptions AND by boosting historical access to journals. Why have we done this? The Libraries recognized a major difficulty students and faculty had in accessing the world-class information available in our print journals - they were stuck at each campus library! Now, students can access many of our journals online, at any time of the day, and from anywhere in the world.
Want to find out more? Here's how:
- You can find out what access we have to specific journals on the Libraries' website, under the 'Articles & Databases' tab.
- Check out RaptorSearch, a new way to across the catalog and our e-resources.
- And of course, stop into any of the Libraries for an in person introduction to any of the Libraries' resources and services!
Good luck and happy researching!
